Zirconium is a grayish-white metal, lustrous and exceptionally resistant to corrosion. It melts at 1855 ° C, boils at 4409 ° C.

Zirconium is lighter than steel and has a hardness comparable to that of copper. It can ignite spontaneously when in its powder form, or when it is exposed to high temperatures. The main use of zirconium is in the form of zircon (ZrSiO4) for the refractory industry, foundry sands, and ceramic opacification. Zircon is also marketed as a gemstone used in jewelry.

A.M.P.I. Srl can offer the following types of Zirconium:

  Types of Zirconium

zirconium oxichloride

zirconium acetate

Zirconium Acetate

Zirconium acetate is a clear colorless solution slightly acidic with a strong smell of acetic acid.
It is used in the manufacture of waterproof materials and fibers. Zirconium acetate is used in the emulsion of wax. Zirconium forms a covalent bond between the carboxyl of the substrate and the cellulose-based wax.
Zirconium acetate provides an ideal function of cross-linking between textile substrates and films of water-repellent waxy.
Zirconium acetate is also used as binder in the refractory industry.

It is also used in the catalyst applications. Zirconium acetate provides an ideal source of concentrated Zr ion, sodium chloride-free, ideal for use in several applications as a catalyst.

Zirconium Carbonate

Zirconium carbonate is used in the coatings and paper fiber in the production of waterproof materials for buildings. It is also used in the pharmaceutical research, as in anti-fungicides and deodorants. Zirconium carbonate is a moist white cake, soluble in mineral and organic acids as well as in alkaline carbonates. Zirconium carbonate is the basic raw material for the preparation of zirconium octoate , as drying agent for solvent-based paints. .

Zirconium Oxide

Zirconium oxide is a crystalline polymorphic substance which is obtained trough chemical processes from Zirconium Silicate and Baddeleyte. Thanks to its crystal structure it has a very good resistance to mechanical stress, it also has important features that make it attractive for many applications. The zirconium oxide occupies a position of respect in many different industry sectors. It lends itself perfectly for use in jewelry and watches, and is particularly appreciated in the medical field (eg, hip joint surgery). It is also used in the production of dyes, enamels and refractory.

Zirconium Oxichloride

We can supply the product both in solution and in crystals. Zirconium oxychloride is used primarily in the textile industry, rubber industry, paints, manufacturer of fireproof material, or in the field of ceramics and enamels.

Zirconium Sulphate

It can be used in the cosmetics industry (tanning) or as raw material for the production of other zirconium compounds. It is also used for stripping of cod liver oil and the purification of proteins (precipitation and separation of amino acids)
